Kilmacud Crokes manager Robbie Brennan is set to be named new Meath senior football manager on a three-year term.

Clubs in Meath were informed this evening that the county management committee were proposing Brennan to take over from Colm O'Rourke, with Martin Corey and former Tyrone All-Ireland winner Joe McMahon arriving as his selectors.

Earlier in the day, it had been thought that Lar Wall was favourite to win the role, the well-travelled manager, who guided The Downs to the Leinster club final in 2022 having put assembled a backroom team containing Cathal O Bric and former Donegal star Mark McHugh.

However, it was confirmed this evening that early favourite Robbie Brennan would be succeeding O'Rourke in the role.

The Dunboyne-based Brennan, who won a Meath SFC title as a player with St Peter's in 2005, is currently pursuing a fourth successive Dublin and Leinster title with Kilmacud.

Brennan guided the Stillorgan side to the 2022-23 All-Ireland club title, famously beating Glen in a controversial final.

His opposite number that day, Malachy O'Rourke, recently returned to the inter-county scene with Tyrone, though both managers are to see out the current club season with their respective clubs sides.
