In Group B3, Marko Arnautovic scored twice as Austria thrashed Norway 5-1 in Linz to go level on points at the top of the table.

Arnautovic gave the hosts an early lead before Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth equalised shortly before the break.

Arnautovic, though, struck again soon after the start from the penalty spot, with further goals from Philipp Lienhart, Stefan Posch and Michael Gregoritsch completing a miserable night for Norway, who sit top on head-to-head record.

A second-half goal from Jan Mlakar gave Slovenia - now also on seven points - a 1-0 win in Kazakhstan, who remain bottom after four games.

Greece 2-0 Republic of Ireland
Finland 1-3 England

North Macedonia took control of Group C4 with a 2-0 win in Armenia to move them six points clear of their hosts at the top of the table.

Faroe Islands remain bottom after Latvia came from behind to draw 1-1 in Torshavn.

Elsewhere, Malta moved level on points at the top of Group D2 with a 1-0 win in Moldova thanks to a late penalty from Teddy Teuma.

In Group D1, Liechtenstein saw a stoppage-time spot-kick saved as they were held to a goalless draw by Gibraltar, who finished with 10 men in Vaduz.

Gibraltar defender Dan Bent had been sent off for giving away the late penalty, before Nicolas Hasler saw his effort stopped by Bradley Banda.
