Dundalk will announce a new manager on Wednesday after confirming the resignation of Jon Daly following the conclusion of the season.
The Lilywhites were relegated to the First Division as Daly failed to keep the side up having taken over in May.
Dundalk said in a statement: "The club takes this opportunity to thank the outgoing Jon Daly, who has returned to his family in Scotland.
"We thank Jon for his efforts and commitment over the past five months, and wish him and his family the very best going forward."
Daly has signalled his intention to step down in the final weeks of the season.
A precarious financial situation was evident during Daly’s time in charge with the club close to folding before a late intervention that saw John Temple take over.
They failed to win any of their last 13 matches in the league campaign.
The picture remains bleak as they prepare for life in the second tier.
They may enter the Small Companies Administrative Rescue Process (SCARP) due to debt of over €1m and also face a battle to obtain a licence to compete in the league from the FAI.
SCARP would lead to a significant points deduction from the governing body and a setback in the hope to return to the Premier Division.
The Lilywhites have moved quickly to appoint a new boss with the promise of revealing the manager tomorrow.
