Andy Moran called up as Seamus Coleman and Shane Duffy return for Finland and England games

Andy Moran has been elevated to the Ireland senior squad for the upcoming double-header against Finland and England, while in-form striker Tom Cannon has also been named in Heimir Hallgrímsson's 23-man squad.

Ireland take on Finland next Thursday evening in the UEFA Nations League at the Aviva Stadium before heading to Wembley Stadium to face England three days later.

The Ireland coach has also brought back some experience into the squad with the return of defensive duo Seamus Coleman and Shane Duffy, though there appears to be some doubt about the fitness of the former.

Captain Coleman missed the October window through injury. On Thursday, his Everton boss Sean Dyche said he was nursing a hamstring issue, adding: "It looks minor at the moment but we'll have to wait and see. He's been working very hard in training, that's an unfortunate one.

"It's a minor hamstring (injury). We've just got to check that it's nothing too serious. We'll know over the weekend - well we'll probably know today actually."

Centre-back Duffy returns after his impressive form for Norwich City.

Stoke City striker Cannon comes back into the squad after he made his international debut against Portugal earlier in the year, and midfielder Moran has been promoted to the senior squad following his impressive performances for the Ireland Under-21s.

Luton Town defender Mark McGuinness keeps his place in the squad after he was named in October but missed both games through injury, and will be hopeful of making his senior Ireland debut in the upcoming matches.

Chiedozie Ogbene, Will Smallbone and Robbie Brady are ruled out through injury, while Matt Doherty, Callum Robinson and Alan Browne have, once again, missed out on selection. Andrew Omobamidele, Jack Taylor and Jamie McGrath also miss out having been part of the squad for last month's games in Helsinki and Athens.

Ireland are third in the group with three points after last month's 2-1 win over Finland in Helsinki – the first of Hallgrimsson’s reign at the third attempt – which was followed by a 2-0 defeat in Greece.
