Seamus Harnedy and Cork ready to 'go to the well' again against Tipperary

Cork attacker Seamus Harnedy highlighted the serious character the side showed in overcoming Limerick in a thrilling Munster round-robin clash, but crucially added that it's "back to the well" for another must-win game against Tipperary next weekend.

After leading by eight at half-time at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh, the Rebels were eventually reeled in on the resumption, with Seamus Flanagan completing his hat-trick of green flags.

The Rebels looked down and out with four minutes to play as they fell four behind.

Despite such a desperate situation, they found the energy and courage deep down to outscore the All-Ireland champions by 1-04 to 0-01 from there.

It came down to a game-defining black-card penalty decision by referee Seán Stack in the fourth and final minute of stoppage time. Shane Kingston was hauled down by Kyle Hayes down the left, a move Stack deemed an attempt to deny a goal-scoring opportunity.

Patrick Horgan stepped up. Having scored 2-10 against Clare, he took his tally to 1-11 with a bullet to the top corner. Brian Hayes added a point to put the seal on a magnificent win for the Leesiders.

Cork are back in the hunt to secure a top-three finish in Munster but again must take maximum points from their date with Tipp in Thurles to keep their dreams afloat.

"We showed serious character towards the end. We looked dead and buried when we went four points down. We showed character, that's all you want. We went to the well; I'm over the moon.

"Everything is on the line in Thurles next week. We gave ourselves a lifeline, that was unbelievable heart and determination."

Harnedy, who helped himself to 1-02 on the night did expect the now customary Limerick response in the second half, but was delighted that heads did not drop.

"There was a bit of a breeze and you could shoot from further out the field, we knew they'd come at us. We have fierce pride in our squad, fierce pride in the team, we just kept going."

In paying tribute to Cork boss Pat Ryan, the St Ita's clubman added: "He has given a huge amount, brought a lot of these lads to U20 All-Irelands and it's unbelievable to get the result. We have to enjoy it for a few minutes and then go back to the well, get back training and on to next week."
