Mayo have confirmed captain Paddy Durcan has suffered a cruciate ligament injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the year.
Durcan came on in the 56th minute of Saturday's 0-20 to 1-08 victory over Cavan in Castlebar but suffered the injury in the dying moments of the game.
Mayo manager Kevin McStay, said: "This is very disappointing news for Paddy and for everyone involved in Mayo GAA.
"He is a valued player who also exhibits outstanding leadership capabilities. We will all support and rally around him in his recovery.
"Paddy will remain our captain and a vital member of our squad, where he will continue to lead and inspire us. We look forward to his return to the playing field."
The Green and Red face Roscommon next, without their influential leader.
"There's so much on the line," McStay admitted. "No doubt they'll be teeing us up after what happened at Dr Hyde Park the last time.
"We have to go into this with a fresh canvas and start our prep almost immediately. It's another crucial two points that are going to be up for offer."
