Gleeson's side defended well for most of the game, but just couldn't hold on against the Swedes who are ranked sixth in the world.
Ireland have now lost all four of their League A Group A3 games having also been beaten by England and France. Hopes of earning automatic qualification for the Euros are out of sight, but the Girls in Green have a guaranteed place in the play-offs regardless thanks to their UEFA Nations League promotion before Christmas.
Speaking after the defeat in Stockholm, Shamrock Rovers star Aine O'Gorman said that the match showed the Girls in Green can create chances against top opposition.
"Obviously in the first game, we learned that we can create chances against good opposition when we go at them," she said. "But then it's how organised we are behind the ball, that we don't lose the run of ourselves and we keep our units tight and organised.
O'Gorman added that Ireland showed that they can play different formations and that a small lapse in concentration let them down from set-pieces.
Looking ahead to the upcoming qualifiers against England and France in July, another 58-times capped Republic of Ireland international Stephanie Roche emphasised the importance of Eileen Gleeson's side limiting the amount of goals that they are conceding.
"A lot of us came into this campaign thinking we have a play-off, let's just go and see what we can do against the top teams. But I think we do have to concentrate on making sure that we're not going out and losing by too many goals.
"Obviously, the seeding can come down to that and you cant get seeded if you have the lowest number of points or more goals conceded."
With captain Katie McCabe suspended for the clash against England, O'Gorman said the Arenal full-back should be fresh for the France game which would be a bonus.
"The first three games were a real learning curve."
O'Gorman added: "Hopefully we will have Denise O'Sullivan and Heather Payne back in as well. Obviously, we will miss our captain on the pitch against England, but it’s a good opportunity for others to step up to the mark."
Roche remains optimistic about Ireland's qualification hopes and claimed that the team will continue to progress by playing against higher level opposition.
"We have come from years of being that tough defensive team to beat and Eileen has tried to bring us forward in terms of trying to create more chances and to get goals. It’s just about getting that right balance," she said.
"The first three games were a real learning curve. We maybe went gung-ho sometimes and left gaps everywhere. These games will definitely benefit us when we do hopefully get to the play-off and hopefully to the Euros.
"We did really well to get to the World Cup, but we also had a lot of luck and played a similar style of football and looked like we couldn’t get a win. So these games will give us that little push to go and try to play against top opposition and maybe get a result."
O'Gorman agreed, concluding: "It is about taking small steps forward. Can we press? Can we start reading triggers? Can we have moments where we press? Moments where we go high and then moments where we concede possession and stay compact.
"It comes down to decision making and we have to change that mindset, but that will come with time."
