"There was the turnover, and it was a terribly good pass, and it was a good team goal.
"When you get opportunities like that you have to take them, especially against Galway. I don't think they'd conceded a goal this year.
"When you get an opportunity like that around the penalty area, you have to just pull on it and hope that it goes in."
While Galway face a preliminary quarter-final next weekend, Armagh can look forward to some much-needed downtime.
"I'm looking forward to a break," Kelly admitted. "Hopefully we get a few days, get the bodies healed and get a few boys back from injury, and we'll go again in the quarter-final."
Galway boss Padraic Joyce expressed mixed emotions after the final whistle and said: "We're disappointed that we didn't get the [result] we needed.
"We got the draw, obviously but we were probably the better team all the way through. We didn't close the game out unfortunately and left Armagh the game, gifted them 1-01 or 1-02.
"I'm pleased enough with the way the lads played. We'd a monumental first half performance, we played really, really well, controlled the ball and controlled the game well, but in these games as you go forward against better teams, you have to take your chances and we just didn't in the second half."
