"She beat Kellie in 2016 in the World final and she was very hot around that time around that time. She was top class; she was world champion, but she went off the radar in 2018 until 2023.

He added: "I don’t know where she went, what she did, but she burst back onto the scene in 2023, and she won a bronze in the Worlds and she won gold in the Asian Games and she’s ranked one coming into the Olympic Games."

The Kildare man described Yang as a "tall, southpaw, counterpuncher" who uses her reach advantage against opponents.

"She’s back with a bang and is going to be a difficult opponent. She’s 5’8", she’s a southpaw, so she’s going to present a challenge," he said.

However, Donovan believes Harrington has displayed in her previous fights that she has what it takes to come out on top once again.

"She beat Kellie before but that was in 2016 and that was Kellie’s first medal as an elite-level athlete. Kellie went on a winning spree of winning major medals since then.

"Kellie Harrington is a complete different fighter now but if you look Wenlu Yang’s record, she’s been beat by the likes of Beatriz Ferreira ... Skye Nicolson from Australia and these are all opponents Kellie Harrington beat," he said.

Donovan added: "But an Olympic final, she’s going to be backing herself, you don’t get there by chance. You get there on merit and absolute ability, but the way Kellie is boxing at the moment ... she’s in the form of her life and her mindset seems to be absolutely exactly where you want it to be.

"I expect her to deliver a good performance and become Ireland’s first time two-time Olympic boxing champion."
