Scottie Scheffler wins Tour Championship to claim FedEx Cup

Scottie Scheffler won the €22.5million FedEx Cup after landing the Tour Championship title in Atlanta.

The world number one started the season-ending event at 10 under par and he was never seriously troubled.

A final-round 67 at East Lake meant he finished on 30 under par, four shots clear of Collin Morikawa, with Sahith Theegala in third.

Further down the leaderboard, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry ended up on 16 under in a tie for ninth place.

Scheffler has been the dominant figure in golf this year, winning the Masters for a second time, back-to-back Players Championship crowns and an Olympic gold medal in Paris.

He won seven PGA Tour events in 2024 – the most by any player for 17 years – setting a standard arguably not seen since Tiger Woods' heyday.

Scheffler took a five-shot lead into the final round, and he was in no mood to relinquish his grip.

Reflecting on his victory, Scheffler said: "We have put in a lot of work to get to this point and it has been a long week.

"Right now I'm just pretty tired, so don’t really know how to put this into words. But it’s a pretty special feeling to be finally holding the trophy.

"I feel like I’ve lived almost a full lifetime in this one year. It’s been nuts.

"I don’t know, I think it just always comes back to my faith. I think that’s the thing that just keeps me grounded, keeps me in the right frame of mind."

Scheffler dropped shots at the seventh and eighth holes before three-successive birdies put him well and truly back on track.

"I got off to a good start and then I had obviously the two holes there on seven and eight and Teddy (Scheffler’s caddie Ted Scott) did a good job of keeping me focused.

"I’m not going to give away all our secrets, but Teddy has always been my biggest supporter.

"I think the results speak for themselves after he was able to pick up my bag and start helping me. He really is a huge part of the team.

"I don’t know if I would be able to do any of this without him on my bag. We’ve got a great relationship.

"He has a habit of saying the right thing at the right time to kind of keep me in the right frame of mind."
