Speaking of arriving at season two, Nancy told Ray that it took seven years for The Dry to get made: "I felt like I wanted to make a show just for an Irish audience".

In her 30s, Nancy worried that she was drinking too much and gave it up: "I worried that I was using it in the wrong way and so I gave up for a year... I wasn't an alcoholic but I think it was really useful to do it".
Speaking of the family dynamics, Nancy told Ray that The Dry is about trying to fit into your own family.
"The parents, they are as interesting as the young people," she says. "Their lives, both of them are realising did they live the life they wanted to live".
Nancy told Ray that she feels very lucky in life, speaking of the challenge of writing and not giving up.
"Believing in yourself is so important," she says. "You will feel terrible when you get rejected... I've had to convince people 'You're wrong' - if you believe in the idea, you just have to keep fighting for it to get made.
"I really did feel that The Dry would have something to say because I knew that I was putting a bit of my soul on the line for it."
