Why you don't have to be religious to have faith, whether in love or something more mundane

I needed a little extra money for my electric bill recently, so I bought a Euro Millions ticket and I put it beneath the picture of Padre Pio that I keep propped on the back of my sofa.

I found the picture one day in the gift shop at Whitefriar Street Church here in Dublin. I'd walked there from my flat to register a complaint about my love life with the relics of St. Valentine.
