Pick of the Day

The comic drama written by Nancy Harris and directed by Paddy Breathnach about a recovering alcoholic Shiv Sheridan (Roisin Gallagher) and her dysfunctional family.

While Shiv celebrates her 36th birthday, she flirts with a barista called Alex (newcome Sam Keeley), but she remains determined not to let a man derail her sobriety again and refuses his offer of a date.

Her mam Bernie (Pom Boyd) has a new boyfriend and is being celebrated for her sobriety - much to Shiv's annoyance.

In episode two at 10.10pm, just as things get steamy between Shiv and Alex, he suddenly refuses a late-night invitation to stay over.

Elsewhere, Caroline gets defensive over commitment-phobic Shane, while Ant is missing Bernie, who's not as much fun now that she's sober.

The King of San Michele prison is back: Luca Zingaretti (below, in his Montalbano days) returns for the second season of the Sky Italia Original series.

Bruno Testori, detained in his own prison, is reinstated in the role of director after Gregorio Verna, head of the secret services, withdraws the charges against him.

In exchange, Testori must obtain information from a prisoner, the magistrate Vittorio Mancuso, accused of the murder of an employee of Slimpetroil Spa.

This will start a battle for the truth, the cost of which will be very high.

Race Across the World, 9.00pm, BBC One

After enjoying the tranquillity of the islands of Koh Phi Phi, the teams leave Thailand and travel across Malaysia to the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

This is where the sixth checkpoint lies in the mountain-fringed city of Bukittinggi.

At this stage in the competition, every decision counts as budgets dwindle and pressure increases.

The Repair Shop, 8.00pm, BBC One

Experts restore a notebook containing codebreaking secrets from the Second World War, a 250-year-old fire pump, a healing bowl from Zanzibar gifted by the daughter of a Sultan.

Secrets and Spies: A Nuclear Game, 9.00pm, BBC Two

It’s the mid-point of this fascinating look at the end of the Cold War.

Britain identifies Mikhail Gorbachev (below) as a possible new contender for Soviet leader, with Oleg Gordievsky's help.

They believe he could be the ticket to better relations between East and West.

Plus, fragile steps towards diplomacy are threatened by the vested interests of other spies still stuck in the old world order.

The Gathering, 9.00pm, Channel 4

This new drama (last night's opener is available at All4) continues as Natalie's plan to secure her daughter Jessica a spot on the national tumbling gymnastics team comes to fruition - at Kelly's expense.

But Jessica's performance suffers when she faces a backlash from her angry teammates.

An acute anxiety-induced asthma attack should be a wake-up call, but Natalie sees an unexpected opportunity.

As Natalie's single-minded pursuit of success pushes Jessica further into Adam's arms, Jessica is forced to make a decision that she can't come back from.

Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal, Netflix

When Ashley Madison, a dating site for people seeking adulterous affairs, is hacked, millions of users' intimate data is exposed, wrecking marriages and destroying lives.

This three-episode documentary series from Minnow Films and director Toby Paton explores the creation of the website during the dot com boom.

It also looks at some of the people who used the site to explore a part of their love lives they felt was missing, as well as the hack that made it all come crashing down.

Uncle Samsik, Disney+

Here's a 16-part period drama from South Korea.

Set amid the turbulent backdrop of the 1960s, the series depicts the passionate desire and bromance between Uncle Samsik and super-elite Kim San.

The latter also changed his major to economics while training in the United States and returns home with a dream of making Korea an industrial country.

It launches with a five-episode premiere and will then have two episodes per week until a three-part season finale on June 19.

The Pod Generation, Prime Video

This rom-com/sci-fi movie is set in the very near future world where AI is all the rage and technology has trumped nature in nearly every aspect of life.

That’s where we meet Rachel (Emilia Clarke) and Alvy (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a New York couple who are ready to start a family.

As a rising tech company executive, Rachel lands a coveted spot at the Womb Center, which offers couples the opportunity to share pregnancy on a more equal footing by way of mobile, artificial wombs, or pods.

Alvy, a botanist and devoted purist about the natural environment, has doubts, but his love for Rachel prompts him to take a leap of faith.

And so begins what promises to be a wild ride on their tech-paved path to parenthood.

Andi Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts, 8.00pm, BBC Two

In her old neighbourhood of west London's Notting Hill, Andi revisits her past with her daughter Miquita.

And the she sets out to create a feast that celebrates those working to uplift the community.

She draws on the cultures that had a huge impact on her time here, namely Caribbean and Moroccan, and plans to host the party at the grade 2 listed block, Trellick Tower.
