Electric Picinic organisers have said this year's 20th anniversary event is "100%" going ahead and that an announcement about the line-up will be made in "a few weeks".

It follows speculation about why acts for the sold-out weekend, due to take place over the earlier dates of 16 and 18 August, have yet to be revealed.

The annual summer festival has taken place in Stradbally Hall, Co Laois since 2004 and in recent years has hosted headliners such as Billie Eilish Niall Horan and The Killers.

Dates and details of acts for Electric Picnic have been announced between 2 and 29 March in previous years.

Head of Festival Republic Melvin Benn has previously said that he is awaiting confirmation of a major act for the event before a full announcement is made.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, The Electric Picnic Residents Committee said they have met with representatives of Festival Republic three times so far about this year’s event.

"Plans are well advanced for the festival and we are waiting on their final plan before communicating it to the community, we will keep you updated," the statement continued.

"The committee are busy working behind the scenes organising for this year’s festival.

"Letters will be distributed to eligible residents in the coming weeks regarding ticket signing for your area."

They were also told the festival would return to a September date next year.

"They said that we wouldn’t have had a meeting with them if it wasn’t going ahead," a spokesperson told local website Laois Live.

"We have met with representatives of Festival Republic, plans are well advanced for the festival and we are waiting on their final plan before communicating it to the community, we will keep you updated," the spokesperson added.

Last September The Department of Integration worked with Electric Picnic organisers provide tented accommodation for Ukrainian refugees in Stradbally after the festival finished.
