Police were at Wellington Hospital this evening after a reported shooting outside the main entrance.
In a statement to 1News, police said there are no reported injuries. It had received a report of a firearm being discharged.
"Those involved appear to be known to each other," a spokesperson said.
Police inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
'No risk to patients or staff' - Health NZ
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley confirmed a firearm had been discharged outside the main entrance.
"No one was injured, and there was no risk to patients or staff. We are now providing support for staff who witnessed the incident.
"While the main entrance will remain temporarily closed, until police have departed, there has been no disruption to services and the hospital continues to operate as normal."
