A person has died following a "workplace incident" at a farm near Morrinsville early this morning.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said: "A person suffered critical injuries and tragically passed away a short time later."
Police were notified of the incident shortly before 8am on Saturday.
WorkSafe has been notified, and has been approached for comment.
WorkSafe documented 62 New Zealand workplace deaths in the year between July of 2022 and June, 2023. The number of fatalities has trended down each year since a 10-year high of 110 in 2019 — the year of the Whakaari/White Island volcanic eruption.
Agriculture was the second highest sector for fatalities after transport, postal and warehousing.
