NRL: Adam Pompey, Marcelo Montoya return for Warriors against Sea Eagles

NZ Warriors will be bolstered by the return of three starters from injury, when they face Manly Sea Eagles in Sydney on Friday.

Centre Adam Pompey has spent the past three outings with a knee complaint, while winger Marcelo Montoya is back from a groin strain that has kept him out of the last four games.

Pompey's absence — specifically, his goalkicking — has been the more keenly felt. He was forced from the field at halftime against Canberra Raiders, a game lost by two points, after five-eighth Chanel Harris-Tavita took over kicking duties and could not find the posts.

Montoya left the field during a one-point loss to Canterbury Bulldogs, when the Warriors lost both wingers and fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, and played much of the game with forwards out of position in the backline.

The third major addition this week is retiring veteran half Shaun Johnson, who was named last week, but withdrew late with a quad strain.

Coach Andrew Webster seems confident Johnson will line up against Manly, but has also named Luke Metcalf on the extended bench, after missing most of the season with a broken leg.

Webster has stuck with Johnson and Harris-Tavita in the halves, dropping Te Maire Martin from the gameday squad altogether, but he has warned the starting line-up may look different to that named. Centre Ali Leiataua is also unavailable with concussion.

With their NRL playoff chances all but gone, the Warriors now hope to sweep their last three games to farewell Johnson, and departing forwards Addin Fonua-Blake and Jazz Tevaga, in style.
