Sara Byrne impresses on LET debut

Sara Byrne's first round on the Ladies European Tour since turning pro was a productive one as she sits inside the top 20 after the first round of the La Sella Open in Spain.

The Cork golfer, who starred in the recent Curtis Cup, sits on two-under par after a round of 70 that included five birdies and three bogeys.

That leaves her three shots adrift of leaders Virginia Elena Carta of Italy, Germany’s Helen Briem and Finland’s Elina Nummenpaa.

Lauren Walsh and Olivia Mehaffey, the other Irish players in the field, face a scramble to make the weekend after opening with three-over par 75s.
