'I didn't do enough' - Kylian Mbappe takes the blame after Borussia Dortmund knock out Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe shouldered the blame for the 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday which saw his side exit the Champions League semi-finals 2-0 on aggregate.

Mbappe, who is set to leave PSG in the summer, with Real Madrid the expected destination, missed two good chances in the second leg at the Parc des Princes.

"I tried to help my team as best as I could but I didn't do enough," Mbappe said.

"I'm the guy who should score goals and be decisive. When things are good, I take all the limelight and when they are not, you have to take the shadow.

"That's not a problem. The first one who should have scored tonight was me. That's life and we have to move on, me and the team."

PSG enjoyed the lion's share of possession and took four times as many shots as their opponents did, hitting the woodwork four times.

"In decisive Champions League matches, when you're not effective in both boxes, it's difficult to get through to the next round," Mbappe said. "Even more so when we're talking about a final.

"We're certainly disappointed, but as I said, it's not all doom and gloom. We need to build on that and keep working, because I'm sure we'll get there."

PSG have already wrapped up the Ligue 1 title and still have the French Cup to play for with Olympique Lyonnais their opponents in the final on 25 May.

"We were not inferior over the two legs, but football rewards those who score not those who hit the woodwork," said PSG coach Luis Enrique.

"My goal was to be fighting for all the titles. Tonight I'm proud of my team, of all the players."

Captain Marquinhos added: "We weren't efficient, they were efficient, they scored two goals and won both matches. There's a lot to take back from this competition.

"At the start of the season, nobody believed we'd get this far. We've overcome a lot of obstacles, but we can't throw everything away now just because we've been eliminated. We have to remember that this is a new project, with a new coach.

"There are positive things to take into the next season."

Dortmund's win made amends for last season's disappointing Bundesliga finale, coach Edin Terzic said.

His side showed great composure to reach their third Champions League final and first since 2013 after Mats Hummels' second-half goal earned a 1-0 victory on the night.

Terzic went to the Dortmund fans after the game and said he felt he had to make up for last season's failure to win the Bundesliga title after slipping up on the very last day.

"Last season, we lost the championship at home on the last matchday. I'm happy that we can now give something back to the fans," Terzic said, remembering how Bayern Munich, who take a 1-0 lead to Real Madrid in tonight's second semi-final, snatched the Bundesliga title from Dortmund on goal difference.

"[Going to the fans] was a very emotional moment, a beautiful moment. We wished it for last season's last matchday. But today we could pay something back, keep them dreaming and now we'll do everything to bring the trophy back home."

"Before the first [Round of 16] game against [PSV] Eindhoven, we talked for the first time about how short the journey to London could be," Terzic said.

"Back then, many were still puzzled. We've grown with every game and eventually realised that we could be the team that surprises everyone in the end. Now I'm very happy to be in the final with my team."

Dortmund have played a roller-coaster Bundesliga season and are currently in fifth place with two games left.

"That plays no role," Terzic said. "In 2013 when Dortmund were in the Champions League final they were 25 points behind in the league and in 1997 when they won it they were also not doing well.

"The season had highs and lows but our season is still not finished," he said.

Marco Reus' Dortmund career is coming to an end and what better way to sign off at the Ruhr valley club than with a return to Wembley Stadium for another shot at Champions League glory 11 years after he lost there in the final.

The 34-year-old who joined Dortmund in 2012 having spent a decade there as a youth player, will leave at the end of the season having won two German Cups but he has yet to win the Bundesliga or the Champions League.

"Indescribable. After more than 10 years, I am in the final with Borussia again," said Reus, who came on as a substitute on Tuesday.

"Ousmane [Dembele] and Achraf [Hakimi] brought a tremendous amount of pace and we suffered a lot."

"How we won the game, no one will ask tomorrow. Shots against the post won't matter tomorrow. What counts is that Borussia Dortmund is in the final again. Nobody expected this. It's just incredible."
