Champions League: Luis Enrique 'firmly convinced' PSG will bite back against Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain will qualify for the Champions League last four by recovering from last week's 3-2 home defeat by Barcelona in their quarter-final first leg, insists manager Luis Enrique.

The Spaniard, who led Barca to the treble in 2015, was confident PSG could overcome what he thought was an unfair loss and continue their quest for a first Champions League crown.

"The first match was hard fought by both teams but the result did not reflect what we deserved. The 3-2 scoreline means we have to go for the game."

PSG started the first leg unbeaten in their previous 27 games in all competitions but were undone by a Barcelona side looking to return the club to the summit of European football after crashing out in the group stage two years in a row.

PSG were given the weekend off from Ligue 1 action to rest for the second leg, which is an advantage Luis Enrique thinks will help with applying an aggressive game plan.

"We will press from minute one and they will play their game. When we have the ball we will try to create as many chances as possible," he said.

"The days after the game were difficult for us, but the good thing about football is that there is another game against the same opponent and now we have the idea of what we have to do. We are in a very good moment and we are ready."

Barca are ready for a battle and willing to suffer in order to advance, said their manager Xavi Hernandez.

"It's going to be a major football war," said Xavi. "We are not a team that speculates, we will want to take the ball away from PSG and win the game. Hopefully we'll be at our best. They're going to demand a lot from us."

The victory in Paris was Barca's first win in the Champions League knockout stage in four years and left them full of confidence as they reached six consecutive victories in all competitions.

They are unbeaten since a 5-3 home loss to Villarreal in LaLiga in January that led to Xavi announcing he was stepping down as manager at the end of what then looked like a difficult season.

Now, 13 competitive games without a loss later, Tuesday's challenge seems to have presented itself at the perfect time.

"Happy to be where we are, proud to be where we are. I think it's a good moment and I'm excited. We feel it already," Xavi said.

"We have to control our emotions, our temperament... It's a game of heads or tails. We want to be in control with the ball, and we want to show the best side and personality of the team.

"We need our fans to be loud because PSG will make us suffer, there's no doubt about it, and we have to be a team to beat them. All of us, together."

Diego Simeone's men take a one-goal lead to Germany

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is wary of Borussia Dortmund's strength at home as his side prepare for the return leg of their quarter-final, having taken a 2-1 lead from last week's first game.

Atletico, looking for their first Champions League semi-final place in seven years, beat Dortmund at the Metropolitano stadium on Wednesday but Simeone acknowledged the German side's power at home, which could cause an upset in the return leg.

"They are a very strong team at home, they will surely start with a high tempo and we have to keep up the level we've been playing at in our last few games," Simeone said ahead of the game at Signal Iduna Park.

"I'm sure they will come out strong, they have a lot of skilful people on the wings, people in the middle who come in very well from the second line too. They work very well on set pieces and we will look to take the game where we think we can hurt them."

Atletico had to withstand intense pressure from Dortmund after going 2-0 up through Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino before Sebastien Haller pulled one back and then twice hit the woodwork.

"All of their players worry me. They are very good, with enormous speed, the young guy number 47 (Antonios Papadopoulos), I don't want to say his name wrong, but he came on the other day and he was a real menace.

"I can't imagine any other style of their football because they showed it last season when they even had a chance to win the German league, and then Bayern (Munich) won it, but obviously they are a very strong team."

However, Simeone trusts his side to deliver.

"We've grown as a consequence of the important results we've been able to get in LaLiga. That has made us grow enormously in the world of football and tomorrow we won't be thinking so much," he said.

"I feel good about the players, it's going to be a good game and tomorrow will be a good Champions League night."

Dortmund manager Edin Terzic wants a strong reaction from his side as they bid to reach the semi-finals of Europe's elite club competition for the fifth time.

"Atletico forced us into mistakes last week," Terzic said. "But we have everything in our own hands tomorrow to progress to the next round.

"We know that our opponents are very experienced. We want to do better from the start tomorrow.

"When you play against Atletico, individual mistakes are immediately penalised. We will show what must not happen to us tomorrow. But what's much more important is how we react. We are ready to make up for mistakes."

Striker Haller, who scored in the first leg, is out after suffering an ankle injury during Dortmund's 2-1 Bundesliga win at Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday but Terzic is hopeful that winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens will be able to complete training with the team, having also been taken off during the Moenchengladbach match due to injury.

Another boost for Dortmund is the return of their Manchester United loanee, midfielder Jadon Sancho, who missed the Moenchengladbach trip after being ill.
