Rory McIlroy remains in a share of second place at the midway point of the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The four-time major winner sits on seven under par alongside Australia's Jason Day, four shots off the lead held by American Xander Schauffele.

Starting on the back nine, McIlroy opened with a birdie on the tenth hole before gaining another shot on the 15th hole.

A string of seven pars on McIlroy's back nine before he finally picked up his third birdie of the day on the eighth, his penultimate hole.

A closing par saw McIlroy sign for a three-under par 68 to add to his four-under opening round.

Shane Lowry shot a level-par 71 to remain on four over par, while Seamus Power is two shots better off on two over following a second consecutive 72.

Both Power, tied for 45th, and Lowry (T58) will play at the weekend as there is no cut in this PGA Tour signature event.
