Katie Taylor to face Amanda Serrano again on Mike Tyson v Jake Paul undercard

Katie Taylor will face Amanda Serrano for a second time on the undercard of Mike Tyson v Jake Paul on 20 July in Texas, with the undisputed super-lightweight championship on the line.

Two years on from a history-making first bout at Madison Square Garden in New York, the Bray boxer will clash again with Serrano at the 80,000-capacity AT&T Stadium in Texas.

The fight will be broadcast free to subscribers on streaming platform Netflix in another new departure for Taylor's career.

It ends a period of uncertainty for Taylor after a trilogy fight with Chantelle Cameron in Dublin, planned for this May, failed to materialise.

Taylor was then set to face a mandatory challenger at an unknown US venue, until talks with Serrano's camp heated up in recent weeks.

The world lightweight belts were up for grabs in the original bout when Taylor edged a controversial decision in April 2022.

Serrano's manager Paul had wanted a rematch closer to her natural featherweight but this bout will instead take place a further weight up, for the titles the 2012 Olympic gold medallist won against Cameron last November in Dublin.

"This is the rematch the world has wanted to see" - Katie Taylor

"This is the rematch the world has wanted to see and I'm delighted that it’s finally happening," said Taylor.

"The first fight in New York was obviously an epic occasion and it more than lived up to the billing, and I’m sure the rematch will be no different."

Serrano said she is happy to fight 10 two-minute rounds in a bid to get revenge for the earlier defeat.

She had previously campaigned to fight 12 rounds of three minutes each, as is standard in men's championship bouts.

"I promised my fans they would see this rematch after we made history at MSG and it feels like a dream come true to know that Katie and I are finally making it happen on the biggest stage possible to show the world what elite women's boxing is all about," said Serrano.

"While my focus continues to be on giving women the choice to fight with the same rules as men, I’ve always said that this is the one fight I’d go back to 10x2 for if that’s what Katie wanted.

"I’m coming for her belts, she wants 10x2, so that’s what we will do. I believe I won our first fight, but I didn’t get the decision, so this time I’m not leaving it to the judges."

The format of the Tyson-Paul bout has yet to be confirmed but the former world heavyweight champion has said he expects it to be an exhibition affair.

Tyson (50-6-0) will be 58 by July and has not fought professionally since losing to Monaghan native Kevin McBride in 2005. His most recent exhibition contest was a draw against Roy Jones Jr in April 2020.

Paul, a 27-year-old social media star turned boxer, has a 9-1-0 record as a professional, his only defeat coming to current heavyweight champion Tyson Fury's brother Tommy last year.
