Kerry dual star Luke Crowley to play for U20s footballers after fixture clash

Kerry dual player Luke Crowley looks likely to miss the Kingdom's Joe McDonagh Cup hurling clash with Offaly on Sunday due to a clash with the Under-20 All-Ireland football championship final.

Crowley is stuck between a rock and a hard place, with the Joe McDonagh game at Glenisk O'Connor Park throwing in at 1pm, the same time the U-20s' decider against Tyrone begins in Laois Hire O'Moore Park.

Kerry fell to a ten-point defeat against Laois in their last Joe McDonagh outing a fortnight ago and need a result this weekend to stay in contention to make the final.

Crowley played in that game and was also key to helping Tomás Ó Sé's footballers get past Meath 0-12 to 0-11 in the All-Ireland semi-final last weekend, chipping in with two points.

Faced with a difficult decision, it seems Crowley will go to Portlaoise with the footballers on Sunday.

"He's a serious player and in fairness to the lad he wanted to play both," Ó Sé told the Irish Independent.

"I thought it was impossible, but in fairness to [Kerry hurling manager] Stephen Molumphy, he was very easy to work with, very fair, very reasonable and this was the only time that it actually clashed.

"So we minded him in between games and we're hoping that he’ll be good for Sunday for us. Hopefully he’ll deal with all that comes with it."
