In a game where defeat could end their interest in this year's championship, Shane McGrath believes the best performance of the year so far from Limerick is coming when they take on Waterford in their final Munster SHC round-robin clash.
Next Sunday's TUS Gaelic Grounds encounter has much riding on it, with the reigning Munster and All-Ireland champions knowing that a consecutive loss, this after being edged out by Cork on 11 May, will mean an early elimination. A draw, however, will be enough for John Kiely's side to progress to the provincial decider.
As for Waterford, they also can't afford to lose. The narrow reverse against Clare means they have to at least gain a point on Shannonside to keep their summer going.
"There is no more safety net and when the safety net is gone it seems to bring out the best in Limerick," he said.
"I'd say they will feel aggrieved at some of the performances from the Cork game. Also you have people saying that the team were tired. Is this the end for them? Are cracks starting to appear? Caroline Currid or no Caroline Currid, these guys will relish this. I expect a massive, massive Limerick performance come the weekend."
Provincial hurling permutations: final-day drama in store in Leinster and Munster championships
As for the Déise's chances on the Ennis Road, McGrath struck an ominous note when adding: "I think everything has to be spot on for Waterford but I think Limerick's best performance of the year is coming this weekend.
"There will be some Limerick crowd in there to support them and I can't see anything other than a Limerick victory.
"If this is played in the Waterford dressing room as a means of getting them up for it, I think they are beat before the games start. I think there's a storm coming."
