International round-up: France stutter against Canada

France were held to a goalless draw by Canada in a disappointing final outing before the European Championship.

A strong France side, including Kylian Mbappe as a second-half substitute, were unable to find a breakthrough against a team beaten 4-0 by the Netherlands on Thursday.

Mbappe's presence after concerns over a knee problem was a positive for Didier Deschamps' heavily-fancied side and he produced some bright moments, but could not give the hosts a victory in Bordeaux.

They begin their Euros campaign against Austria on 17 June.

Italy also had a difficult evening against Bosnia in Empoli, but emerged with a 1-0 victory thanks to Davide Frattesi.

The midfielder met Federico Chiesa's cross with an acrobatic volley seven minutes before half-time, but there were some nervy moments at the back for Italy, who start the defence of their title against Albania on Saturday.

Argentina beat South American rivals Ecuador, taking home a 1-0 victory at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Angel Di Maria nabbed the winning goal for the World Cup victors, with Lionel Messi watching from the sideline, with his first hour of the game spent on the bench.
