Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow will be around for the weekend's action at the Meijer Classic in Michigan after they both finished the second round on -3.

The event is the final one before next week's KPMG Women's PGA, the third major of the year.

Maguire, who had a slightly disappointing opening round of 72, put in a much improved second round performance with four birdies and just one bogey on her way to a round of 69.

Meadow had a more eventful day, signing for a 70 in a round which included three bogeys and five birdies for finish the day in joint 49th.

With the cut at -2, both Irish women will stick around for the weekend, although Nelly Korda will not, the second consecutive tournament in which she's done so.

At the top of the leaderboard American Ally Ewing and Grace Kim of Australia share the lead on -11.

Ewing signed for an impressive second round of 63. Her bogey-free round began with three birdies over her first five holes, and she chipped in for eagle at the par-5 eighth hole. She sank four more birdies coming home, including a short putt at the par-3 11th after an excellent tee shot.

"I think you can make a lot of birdies out here," Ewing said. "At the same time, I approach a golf course with what it gives me, so I try to play smart but aggressive golf."

The 31-year-old, who has three LPGA wins to her name, found her form again after tying for third at the US Women's Open two weeks ago.

"Yeah, I think any time you get a good finish in any tournament, much less a major, you just see good golf for four days, definitely helps your confidence when you carry it over," Ewing said. "The golf ball doesn't know what I did last week, but it's still important to attack it but also have confidence with it."

Kim kept pace with the American and the only blemish on her card was a bogey on the tricky par-4 17th. With rounds of 68 and 65, she'll be confident of staying in contention heading into the weekend.
