Damien Duff has extended his contract with Shelbourne with the club confirming the former Ireland international is set to remain at Tolka Park "for the foreseeable future."

RTE Sport understands the contract is up until the end of the 2026 season.

Duff, who was capped 100 times for his country, took his first senior management job at the club ahead of the 2022 SSE Airtricity League campaign.

The team has made progress in that time, finishing seventh in 2022 and fourth last season. That rise has accelerated in 2024, with Shels currently sitting top of the table, two points clear of second place Derry City and with a game in hand.

The Drumcondra club have 14 league games left to play in the campaign.

This week, Shelbourne were also involved in a European draw for the first time in 18 years, pulling out St Joseph's of Gibraltar in the first qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.

Duff said of his contract extension: "The players, the staff and the club are always in my heart and in my head. Time to rise again."

The club has also confirmed that Duff's management team - Joey O'Brien (assistant manager), David McAllister (first team coach), Mauro Martins, (S&C), and Paul Skinner (goalkeeping coach) - have signed new contracts.

Barry Mocke, Shelbourne FC CEO said: "We are thrilled to have Damien Duff and his coaching staff commit to new long-term contracts with Shelbourne FC. Damien's dedication, vision, and leadership are invaluable to our club, and we look forward to achieving great things together."
