Irish flyweight (51kg) Ricky Nesbitt has bowed out of the European Boxing Championships in Serbia.

The Holy Family Drogheda boxer was the only Irish fighter in action on Friday, but was defeated by Samet Gumus of Turkey.

On Day 2 of the tournament, the World University Games medal winner came up short the 22-year-old Turk who has already secured his place at the Paris Games this summer.

On Thursday featherweight Adam Hession progressed to the second preliminary round after a unanimous decision victory over Giorgia Kapanadze of Georgia.

Hession will next face the Belgian Vasile Usturoi on Sunday.
