Paris 2024: Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove to start medal race in silver position

Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove will start the men's skiff medal race in second place after a strong finish to the opening series.

The Irish duo had slipped from second overall to third following race 10, where they finished 11th, then fourth following race 11 (14th) but bounced back with second place in race 12.

Tomorrow's medal race (1.43pm Irish time) is a double points race, with scores added to the 10 qualifying boats' totals rather than a new competition.

Spain lead on 68 points, Ireland are currently in the silver medal spot on 73 and New Zealand dropped from first to third on 76 after finishing 15th in race 12.

Ireland will score a minimum of two points tomorrow so would need the Spaniards to finish fourth or lower to be in with a shot at gold.

Racing was delayed and the women's windsurfing marathon abandoned as the wind faded off Marseille.

After a dramatic start, where a power boat whizzed across the front of the fleet to signal the off, the marathon race developed into a slow slog, with the windsurfers dropping off the foils and having to 'pump' their sails to propel themselves.

Eventually, after Israel's Sharon Kantor had led for most of the legs completed, the organisers opted to abandon, an official boat speeding in front of the fleet and flying the flag signalling that the race was over.

The marathon, which counts as two races in the series, was meant to last between 60 and 90 minutes. It will not be re-run, with race scheduling and the wind forecast making it potentially difficult to now fit into these Games.

The men's marathon was also due to take place today, but was postponed due to the light wind conditions.

France fought back to lead the women's skiffs, just ahead of the Netherlands in second and Sweden in third ahead of Thursday's medal race.
