Ellen Walshe has qualified for tonight's 200m individual medley with a time of 2:11.81.

The Templeogue swimmer finished sixth in her heat this morning and has qualified 15th overall.

The Canadian Summer McIntosh qualified first with a time of 2:09.90, less than two seconds faster than Walshe.

The 22-year-old’s time in the heat was less than a second down on her national record of 2:10.92

The semi-finals in this event are scheduled to begin at 8.22pm tonight.

Speaking after qualifying for the semi-final, Walshe said this morning's heats were "really fast".

"I wasn’t sure when I saw the board ... but delighted to just scrape in there at the end and hopefully go out and enjoy it tonight," she said.

Ahead of the semi-final, Walshe said she was looking forward to competing for Ireland again, but she admitted she has things to work on before swimming tonight.

"I’d like to be a bit stronger than I was this morning on the front end. My backstroke probably did fall off ... so, we can probably work on that tonight, I’ll have to watch it," Walshe said.
