Pick of the Day

The Day of the Jackal, 9.00pm, Sky Atlantic

If you’ve seen the film starring Edward Fox or read Frederick Forsyth’s novel, you’ll be anticipating this brand-new drama series.

An unrivalled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne), makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee.

But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake.

A hopefully fresh twist on Frederick Forsyth's 1971 classic, the ten-part series also stars Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel, No Time To Die), Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist, Snatch), Charles Dance (Game Of Thrones) and Richard Dormer (Fortitude).

New or Returning Shows

Until I Kill You: The Real Story, 9.00pm, UTV

Here’s a follow-up to the recent fact-based drama starring Anna Maxwell Martin (below).

She narrates a documentary charting the ordeal that the real Delia Balmer suffered at the hands of John Sweeney, who turned out to be a serial killer.

The film explores the stories of Sweeney's known victims, including American model Melissa Halstead and mother-of-three Paula Fields.

It also reveals the grisly details of how he dismembered their bodies and disposed of their remains.

Don’t Miss

Tamara Drewe, 9.00pm, BBC Four

Good god, this film is 14 years old!

It’s a comedy based on Posy Simmonds' comic strip, starring Gemma Arterton, Dominic Cooper and (best of all) Tamsin Greig.

A woman returns to the sleepy village where she grew up, having transformed from an awkward teenager to a successful and confident journalist.

She instantly becomes the object of obsession for every man in the neighbourhood, while her sex life becomes a source of fascination for two local girls.

Taskmaster, 9.00pm, Channel 4

In this penultimate episode, Babatunde Aléshé contemplates what to do with a power washer and Andy Zaltzman attempts to shoehorn cricket into yet another task.

Jack Dee's son tries to make his dad proud with some crucial information and Rosie Jones smears another plate with brown stuff.

Plus, Emma Sidi shows off her skills as an effective supervisor.

As usual, Taskmaster Greg Davies perches on his big chair and passes judgement on what number-cruncher Alex Horne places before him.

On a bright September morning, Ella McSweeney made her way to Bagnelstown in Carlow, driven by a mission of hope.

She was there to assist in the release of birds whose calls had not echoed in the wild for decades.

Teaming up with Larry Bolger, she engaged in a vital project led by the National Association of Regional Game Councils, dedicated to saving the Irish Grey Partridge from the brink of extinction.

New to Stream

Firebrand, Prime Video

Alicia Vikander, Jude Law, and Eddie Marsan star in this historical drama film directed by Karim Aïnouz and written by Henrietta Ashworth and Jessica Ashworth.

It’s based on the 2013 novel Queen's Gambit by Elizabeth Fremantle.

The film focuses on Katherine Parr, Queen of England and the wife and widow of Henry VIII and marks Aïnouz's first directorial effort in the English language.

Katherine Parr (Vikander), the sixth wife of King Henry VIII (Law), is named regent while the tyrant battles abroad.

When the king returns, increasingly ill and paranoid, Katherine finds herself fighting for her own survival.

Born for the Spotlight, Netflix

This Taiwanese drama follows a journey of a starlet and sisterhood, focusing on the friendship between two top actresses as they pursue their passion and navigate the cutthroat showbiz landscape in Taiwan.

Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson, Netflix

A three-part documentary series with intimate access to fighters The Problem Child, Jake "El Gallo" Paul and the Baddest Man on the Planet, Mike Tyson, as they prepare for their heavyweight boxing mega-event, airing live on Friday, November 15.

The documentary series takes viewers behind-the-scenes of Paul and Tyson's respective training camps to capture the incredible grit, determination and physical demands needed to prepare for what will be an explosive, can’t miss professional boxing mega-event.

It also follows the lead up to one of the most anticipated women's fights in history, the rematch between undisputed super lightweight champion Katie Taylor and unified featherweight champion Amanda 'The Real Deal’ Serrano, as the two train to face off for the undisputed super lightweight championship title in the co-main event.

Fans will gain a fresh perspective to the unprecedented match-up through interviews with those closest to the fighters and raw, unfiltered moments with family and friends.

Ending Today

A House Through Time: Two Cities at War, 8.00pm, BBC Two

As this fascinating and contrasting WWII story concludes, David Olusoga traces the residents' stories from winter 1942 to the end of the war.

In the shattered ruins of Berlin, not all the residents survive.

One falls under suspicion when a plot to kill Hitler is exposed. In London, a woman waits patiently for news when her husband is captured by the Japanese.

Sport

Live UEFA Conference League, 5.00pm, TNT Sports 4

Shamrock Rovers host The New Saints (KO 5.45pm) in the league phase of the Conference League at Tallaght Stadium.

It’s a huge game for both clubs, with Rovers aiming to put the loss of their Premier Division crown behind them as they aim to become the first Irish club to make the knockout phase of a European competition.

With their domestic campaign completed, this is the last opportunity for Stephen Bradley's (above) side to play with a match-fit squad, as the three remaining Conference League games are all out-of-season.

A win would put Rovers on seven points, which could be enough to qualify for the play-off stage of the competition.
