The new album's focus track is Chill For The Summer and the band describe it as, "a response to rising violence and sexual assault against women".
Rebecca adds: "I saw a thread of hundreds of people sharing their stories of being attacked by men, all unprovoked and mostly because they rejected them.
"The line `She wouldn’t even give me her number' is the excuse of the attacker that it’s justified to target women just because they say no to you.
"We’re always told to `just say no’ when it’s not that simple and can end up with someone being assaulted or even losing their life. Chill For The Summer is about women simply trying to exist without living in fear."
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
We’re made up of a Gemini, Libra, Pisces and Scorpio, guess who’s who…
We love Formula 1 and try to always watch races together, even if it’s between takes in the studio. We even have a Sick Love fantasy league with our fans.
We’ve been a band for 10 years and best friends for almost our whole lives. Everybody told us we wouldn’t last but we’re still here doing what we love
How would you describe your music?
90s/Early 00s rock music with pop influences. Imagine if Paramore and Green Day had a baby and Regina Spektor was the godmother.
Who are your musical inspirations?
We grew up listening to bands like Paramore, Blondie, No Doubt, Queens of the Stone Age, Green Day and dreaming about being on stage like them one day. So, it’s amazing that we actually get to live that dream now. But I was also heavily inspired by singer-songwriters like Regina Spektor, Marina and Kate Nash when I was a teenager writing songs in my bedroom. I think the blend of influences has really shaped Sick Love and how we make music in a unique way.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Britney Spears at the RDS in 2004! I was absolutely obsessed with Britney when I was a kid and I couldn’t believe it when my parents brought me. Baby me almost passed out from all the excitement. But for my first "grown-up" gig, my best friend went to see Metro Station in the Olympia when we were 14 years old, what a time.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt. I had a slightly older, cooler family friend that took me under her wing and taught me all about female-fronted rock bands like No Doubt and Garbage and I was changed forever. That album and watching Gwen Stefani shaped so much of who I am as a front woman today. It was like I could finally see myself or someone I could be, when all I knew about rock music before was male-centred bands that I couldn’t relate to.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Blame Brett by The Beaches. That whole album is on constant repeat for me at the moment!
Favourite lyric of all time?
"I’m the hero of the story, don’t need to be saved" - Hero, Regina Spektor.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
God Only Knows by The Beach Boys. For me personally it’s just a perfect song and a perfect album. Every time I go back to it, it just brings me so much joy and nostalgia.
