Behind the music - Public Order

Welsh indie rock band Public Order have released their new single, Hello. We asked them the BIG questions . . .

The band's debut single, 2022’s Feels Like Summer, was featured on the FIFA 2022 soundtrack, garnering two million streams and counting, and supported by BBC Radio 1.

But just shortly afterwards, they were dropped by their label, forced back into their day jobs, and had to start all over again.

Public Order persevered writing new music and recently found a new home on London based independent Ignition Records, with a post telling their story on TikTok.

Speaking about Hello, the band say, "It’s been a while but we’re buzzing to be back with new music! The last 18-months have been a bit of a roller coaster for us but we took some time out to work on new music and even managed to sign a new record deal.

"Hello, produced by fellow Welsh residents Damon Minchella and Tom Manning, is the first track to be taken from a forthcoming EP. It’s a pulsing, guitar driven indie banger which we love and have been champing at the bit to get out into the world."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

We love surfing, snowboarding and anything with a buzz really haha! We’re from a small town in the valleys of South Wales called Merthyr Tydfil!

How would you describe your music?

Our music is a love child of 90s rock and indie that’s grown up through all the eras of dance and house music - with a Welsh accent.

Who are your musical inspirations?

We have a load of polar opposite inspirations - from the songwriting of people like Damon Albarn, The Beatles, Chris Martin, 1975 and Robert Smith. Guitarists like Andy Summers, Johnny Marr, John Fruisciante and Jerry Cantrell. To the production of The Prodigy, Pendulum all the way to artists like Flume and Fred Again.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

The first gig I ever went to was the Stone Roses in Manchester.

What was the first record you ever bought/downloaded?

I don’t know if this counts, but the first record I had was a gift from my brother and it was The Smiths’ self-titled debut album along with Deftones’ White Pony.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Wish I Ain’t - Joe Unknown.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"You know what you wanna do with that right, you wanna put a banging donk on it" - The Blackout Crew.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Everything - Micheal Bublé.

Where can people find more information about you and your music?

We got all the classics - we’re most active on instagram @publicorderuk and tiktok @publicorder. New music on all streaming platforms and YouTube!
