This is a documentary examining the treatment of unmarried pregnant women in Ireland, which was heavily influenced by the Catholic Church.

Unbelievably, many unmarried mothers were incarcerated in mother and baby institutions run by nuns from the foundation of the state in 1922 up until as recently as 1998.

Here, survivors reveal the shocking details of their treatment in a scandal that sparked a government inquiry into the fate of these women who fell pregnant in 20th-century Ireland.

New or Returning Shows

Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me, 8.00pm, BBC One

Here’s another documentary, this one detailing Strictly Come Dancing dancer Amy Dowden's battle against stage three breast cancer.

Six days after her diagnosis in May 2023, Amy (above) made the decision to allow cameras to follow her experiences whatever may unfold as she entered a world of surgery, chemotherapy, fertility treatment and uncertainty.

Over a 15 month-period, the film captures the difficult times, tough decisions and glorious moments like the Strictly family finding a way to include her in the pro dance in the series final.

Platform 7, 9.00pm, UTV

Psychological thriller, starring Jasmine Jobson. Looks like ideal Monday night viewing.

Stranded in the train station where she died, Lisa is left with no memory until she witnesses a suicide on Platform 7, triggering her memories to return in fragments.

The return of her memories and the interest taken in her case by transport police officer Akash leads her one step closer to unraveling the mystery of her own death.

Titanic: The Musical, 7.00pm, Sky Arts

A film of the stage musical Titanic, shot live on its 2023 UK tour.

Irish fans of musical thetre may have seen it when the show played Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.

It won five Tony awards when it debuted back in 1997 and recounts the aspirations of the real people on the RMS Titanic.

Timothy Spall: Somewhere at Sea, 7.30pm, BBC Four

Season 2 sets sail with an episode entitled he Luck of the Irish Sea.

The actor Tomothy Spall (below) and his wife Shane embark on a journey from Cardiff to Clydebank in their barge the Princess Matilda.

The first leg of the voyage begins smoothly as they travel to Milford Haven - but a bungled departure leaves them marooned en route to Fishguard.

Shane also gets to make an emotional return to Aberystwyth, and the couple receive a pleasant surprise when they visit the coastal village of Porthdinllaen

As season 2 continues from last night, the Sparrows are forced to join the Bransons on their revenge mission, but must act quickly to save the Bottomleys.

Meanwhile, Lisa receives evidence that shines a new light on the past.

Clive Myrie (above) invites four more contestants to brave the black chair, asking questions on the specialist subjects of the novels of Zadie Smith, Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, the history of Shetland hand-knitting, and the TV sitcom Spaced, before each is tested on their general knowledge.

Ending Today

The Kingdom: The World’s Most Powerful Prince, 9.00pm, BBC Two

The conclusion of the documentary explores what Mohammed bin Salman (below) did once he had effectively seized power in Saudi Arabia by becoming crown prince.

The programme hears from friends, advisers, western spies, diplomats and those who had been in the inner circles of the Saudi court, revealing a tale of determination and dynamism, but also impatience and recklessness.

World Wallball Championships 2024, 8.00pm, TG4

Here’s something a bit different.

Highlights from the 2024 World Wallball Championship which were recently held at the University of Limerick Sports Arena.

This was the first time that a dedicated Wallball World Championship took place on its own and there was a total of 900 entries, with leading players from Ireland, the USA, Canada, France, the Basque Country and Japan among other nations.

A 60th anniversary celebration of Match of the Day, looking at the best moments in the history of the original football highlights show.

It’s followed at 11.30pm by the excellent football-related movie, The Damned United, starring Michael Sheen as legendary boss Brian Clough.
