New or Returning Shows

Ireland's Thalidomide Scandal, 9.00pm, Virgin Media One

Here’s a look at the thalidomide scandal in Ireland, which is considered one of the country's longest-running medical tragedies.

The flawed drug was used in the 1960s to treat morning sickness and as a sedative for pregnant women and teething infants.

It was sold over the counter under various brand names and was also available from general practitioners and in hospitals, surgeries and maternity homes.

Unfortunately, it led to numerous children being born with a range of severe deformities.

Then, back to the UK, Rob and Romesh get set to perform a genuine stunt as they go from Hollywood to, eh, Hollyoaks.

Celebrity Race Across the World, 9.00pm, BBC One

This show is just a great way of seeing the world from the safety of your sofa.

The third leg sees the teams racing from the cobblestoned town of Lencois in Bahia to the metropolis of Sao Paulo in a 2,400km budget-busting journey through Brazil's biggest cities.

Leaders Jeff and Freddy set off just over 15 hours ahead of their closest rivals and plan to commemorate Freddy's mum in Salvador.

Kola and Mary Ellen struggle as they miss the last bus out of Lencois, and Kelly and Jeremy prioritise speed as they leave the checkpoint almost a day behind the front runners.

Scott and Sam feel the pressure in last place and work hard to find a much-needed budget boost.

Europa Conference League Play-off, 4.50pm, Solid Sport

Saint Patrick’s Athletic meet Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish capital for a place in the league phase of the Europa Conference League – can Stephen Kenny’s side do it?

Following a scoreless first leg in Dublin, it’s all to play for, although the Turks will fancy themselves on home turf. But Pat’s have done so well to get this far and are so far unbeaten in Europe after five games.

Unfortunately, the game isn’t on Irish terrestrial TV but is available to stream on Solid Sport for a tenner. Oisin Langan and Eoin Doyle will be on commentary duty.

Dreams of Glory: The Glentoran Story, 10.40pm, BBC One

Always had a soft spot for the Glens - and their beautiful, old-school stadium The Oval - so I’ll certainly be watching this.

It’s a documentary following Irish League club Glentoran FC in East Belfast from 2021 until this year as they adjust to new ownership after being saved from financial collapse and try to reclaim the glory days of the past.
