8 things to do in Dublin for the Bank Holiday weekend

The May bank holiday weekend is upon us, which means it's time to start making plans. With an extra 24 hours of time off to enjoy, and the promise of warmer weather, it's imperative that we squeeze every last drop of fun from the coming days.

Here are just a few interesting, delicious, and adventurous events happening around the city.

1. Kilo Sale, City Quay

On Sunday, May 5, Kilogarm is hosting a one-off event at the As One Café that will allow ticket holders to shop unique clothing by weight. There will be a large range of vintage and preloved garments, all of which will be priced at €35 per kilo, and you can buy as much or as little as you want. It should be noted that this event is cashless, so card and contactless payments are required.

Early Bird Tickets are €2 for the 10am time slots at this event. All other entry tickets are free and online-only.

2. Expansion Celtic Series Women's Yoga Gatherings, Fumbally

The second in a series of Celtic Women's Yoga Gatherings, this Bealtaine-inspired event will work to help attendees sync their internal systems with the season, using 'movement, relaxation, connection and reflection'.

Marking an important moment on the Celtic calendar, this evening session will take place in The Studio at Fumbally from 7pm-8:30pm, and will be led by Naomi Sturdy of Elements Yoga. €25-€65.

3. Cinco de Mayo, Brickyard

Taking place on May 5, Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican army's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. These days, it has become a global celebration of Mexican heritage, shining a spotlight on some of the incredible food, music, and traditional dances of this vibrant culture.

If you want to partake in the celebrations, D16 gastropub Brickyard is going all out with a mouthwatering Mexican brunch extravaganza on both Saturday and Sunday, running from 12pm-4pm. Booking ahead is recommended.

4. Romantic Dublin, Stephen's Green

Looking to mix things up for your next date night? Questo are hosting an outdoor Escape Game for couples across the bank holiday weekend. Touring through some of the city's most charming and picturesque places, you and your date will hunt down hidden clues and take on fun challenges.

The experience will play out like you’re the main characters of a movie - one where you're experiencing everything in first person. Tickets cost €9.99, but the app that hosts the game is free, and can be paused and resumed anytime if you fancy a coffee break or a bite to eat.

5. Music in Monkstown, Monkstown

If you're looking for something a little high-brow this weekend, look no further than Music in Monkstown. The long-running classical music festival celebrates beautiful classical music in a stunning church setting.

Taking place in Monkstown Parish Church at 7:30pm on Sunday, May 5, the Magnes Ensemble will deliver the works of Mozart, Debussy, Danzi, Farkas and Nielsen. Tickets cost €20 and €10 for students.

6. Decluttering Workshop, Tallaght

If your home is in desperate need of a spring clean, but you haven't a clue where to start, this decluttering class could hold the answer. Hosted in Tallaght Library, the workshop will be presented by Fiona Hall who has worked as a decluttering expert for many years.

Across 60 minutes, this workshop will look at what might be holding you back from letter go of possessions, and share tips for keeping our spaces organised.

7. Movie Night, Temple Bar

With Taylor Swift's Tortured Poet's Department sweeping the charts, now is the perfect time to pop on the popcorn and take in one of the singer's artistic inspirations: Dead Poets Society.

Taking place in The Clockwork Door on Friday, May 3, the 1989 classic will be screened at 7pm followed by a discussion and analysis with the audience, as well as a game of movie trivia. Tickets are €8.

8. Kayaking, Cabra

Fancy trying your hand at something a little more adventurous this weekend? The Cabra Kayak Club is inviting ticket holders to come and try kayaking at their club on Saturday, May 4. Based on the Royal Canal, the session will run from 10am - 1pm.

General admission costs €25 and includes the use of a kayak, paddle, helmet, buoyancy aid, wetsuit (if you have your own wetsuit, please bring it), but be sure to pack your own towel, swimwear, old runners you don't mind getting wet, a bottle of water, and a bag for your personal belongings.
