Keilidh Cashell, makeup artist and founder of KASH Beauty, shares her tips on creating the perfect beauty look for you on your big day.

How would you describe traditional bridal makeup, and is it always as much of a failsafe as we think?

When I think of bridal makeup I think of classic glam, wanting to feel like the most beautiful version of yourself - whether that's full glam with soft smokey eyes or very natural. Bridal makeup is an art in itself, it’s about creating your best look but also a look that will photograph beautifully and last all day through to night. It’s very hard to find the balance with this and not looking too cakey or heavy.

What skin prep steps would you recommend for everyone, regardless of skin type?

The key to having a flawless base that lasts is skin prep. I would recommend using a makeup primer that works with your skin type, that you have trialled and used on yourself for a few months. A primer is essential as it’s designed for makeup, and depending on your skin type can target your skin concerns to allow for a flawless base.

Is there anything you would consider a no-no when it comes to bridal makeup?

I personally wouldn’t try anything too out of your comfort zone or just based off of trends. These are pictures you will look at for the rest of your life, so opting for a more classic glam or whatever makes you feel most like you is best. Sometimes less is more!

What is the best way to get longevity in your makeup?

Definitely your skin prep like I mentioned above. That and a good setting powder that doesn’t cake and can easily be reapplied during the day.

Throughout the night, how can you freshen up your look?

I would recommend bringing a setting powder and your lip combination is your hand bag. Powdering your T-zone and topping up your lip are the only real necessities you should need for the night.

What are some details that a bride could add to her look to make it her own?

I think a wedding lip combo is something you’ll remember and love for the rest of your life, so choosing wisely on this. I think also playing around with tones of blush and eyeshadows in the trial stage - there might be something you haven’t tried yet that could compliment you more that you aren’t even aware of yet!

What is your one makeup trick for making bridal makeup really pop?

I really think adding shimmer to the lid, even just a subtle kiss of it can look beautiful in photography and really just demands all the attention to the eyes. Another tip is trying a cream eyeliner in the waterline, this can again drag more attention to the eyes and makes them look bigger and more doll like. Also playing around with eyeshadow tones to really make the eyes pop. For example if you have blue eyes, instead of opting for a neutral/cool tone brown shadows, use browns with a warmer tint to them. This will really make your eyes stand out!
