Pedestrian dies after being being struck by car in Northland

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car north of Whangārei this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash in Helena Bay around 3.15pm.

Police said the pedestrian was struck by the vehicle after it left the road and impacted a power pole.

"Sadly the pedestrian died at the scene," a police spokesperson said,

Hato Hone St John responded with one ambulance and one rapid response unit, a spokesperson said.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said two fire trucks and two support vehicles responded.

Power was out to around 700 properties after the crash but has since been restored.
