Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault near the Gisborne Waikanae Beach boardwalk.
It reportedly occurred on Tuesday April 9 at about 5pm.
The suspect was said to be wearing a red cap and shorts, and has been described as being in his early 20s and with a lean build.
He was travelling on a bicycle through the area near the boardwalk, including Customhouse Street and Grey Street.
"In particular, police would like to speak to a group of children who were seen by the bridge on Customhouse Street between 4-5pm."
Police added they believe these children can provide "vital information" relating to this incident.
They encourage anyone else who may have witnessed the incident or who has relevant information to get in touch.
