Police said the crash on Vincent St was reported at 5.15pm.

Resident Gracie Bryan, who lives on the floor below the lobby, said she heard a "loud bang" during the crash.

"I heard the crash, felt a rumble, and ran straight up."

The resident said she might have been the first one on the scene.

"It's a really weird, really specific angle to come in at."

She said someone was stuck in the lift because of the angle of the car.

"They were lucky the doors were closed."

St John said it responded to the crash with an ambulance and rapid response vehicle.
