Torino claimed their third win from five matches to move to the top of the Serie A table.

They took advantage of an early red card for Hellas Verona's Pawel Dawidowicz to secure a 3-2 victory, taking their tally of points for the season so far to 11.

Grigoris Kastanos had cancelled out Antonio Sanabria's opener when Dawidowicz saw red after only 21 minutes.

Duvan Zapata put Torino back in front before half-time and Che Adams scored his second goal for his new side before Daniel Mosquera managed a late response for Verona.

Empoli also continued their good start to the season with a 2-0 win over Cagliari, Lorenzo Colombo and Sebastiano Esposito scoring the goals.

In La Liga, Alaves got the better of Sevilla, Carlos Vicente and Carlos Martin netting in a 2-1 victory.

There were red cards on both sides as Mainz claimed their first win of the new Bundesliga season, beating Augsburg 3-2.

Mainz were two up in 15 minutes through Armindo Sieb and Jonathan Burkardt but first Keven Schlotterbeck pulled one back and then Nadiem Amiri was dismissed.

The 10 men added a third, Burkardt grabbing his second, and they held on after Samuel Essende pulled one back, with the same player sent off 20 minutes from time.

In Ligue 1, it was an embarrassing night for St Etienne as Nice ran out 8-0 winners.

They were six goals up at half-time, Youssoufa Moukoko scoring twice, and the visitors' misery was complete when Pablo Rosario converted a penalty four minutes from time.
