Dublin pizza spot voted 15th best in Europe in pizza awards

An Irish pizza restaurant was named the 15th best pizzeria in Europe, and scooped two prizes, at the Pizza Europa Awards in Madrid last night.

Little Pyg, in Dublin's Powerscourt Townhouse Centre was awarded the accolade by 50 Top Pizza, a food publication and guide that celebrates the highest culinary achievements in the competitive world of pizza.

With the awards handed out at a glamorous ceremony in Spain's capital city, Little Pyg was the only Irish spot to be named among other renowned pizzerias across the continent.

Little Pyg is the sister restaurant to Dublin favourite Pygmalion, and opened just before the outbreak of Covid-19. Pizzas are one of their specialties, with each pizza chef sent to Italy for one year, to train under Enzo Coccia, a celebrated pizza expert. It had ranked at no. 27 on the list last year.

It also received the award for best authentic Italian produce in Europe.

Naples on the Road in London, headed up by Michele Pascarella and his team, was awarded the top spot, with Sartoria Panatieri, located in Barcelona, coming in second place, after securing the top spot last year. Via Toledo Enopizzeria in Vienna, Austria, rounded out the top three.

The pizza awards are a branch of the prestigious Top 50 rankings, which are released annually and rank the best restaurants in the world. One of over 2,000 inspectors working worldwide anonymously reviews each chosen pizzeria to decide on the ranking.

Having entered the top 20, Little Pyg will now compete for the top global pizzeria accolade at the world championships in Naples in September 2024.
